Lisa Sylvester

Director of Music

As a vocal coach/pianist/conductor, I began serving as interim music director at Saint Mark’s in September 2014. I am on the faculty of the University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music, where I am the Chair of Vocal Arts and Opera and teach courses in Diction and Song Literature. I am also on the faculty of OperaWorks, a summer training program for singers.

I have long been associated with the Long Beach Opera as assistant conductor/orchestral pianist, served as assistant conductor for two world premieres in the San Francisco Bay Area, and presented workshops at national conferences. My family and I have attended Saint Mark’s for many years, and I have served in a variety of leadership roles, including as junior warden and as the Saint Mark’s School chapel musician.
